Data show IBD patients need more guidance, screenings

Study data show gastroenterologists could do a better job warning inflammatory bowel disease patients about the risks of getting live vaccinations or the male fertility effects of their medications. Researchers from George Washington University said IBD patients also are not routinely screened for tuberculosis, hepatitis or other diseases. Dr. Miguel Regueiro of the University of Pittsburgh commented that preventive strategies for IBD patients are important, particularly as emphasis moves to quality metrics.
