New obesity drugs give gastroenterologists tools to help them be proactive in managing overweight patients and encouraging lifestyle changes, said Dr. Amy Foxx-Orenstein, a former ACG president and associate professor at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. She said gastroenterologists see patients while their weight is increasing and can help them before they develop complications, playing an important preventive role.
