NSAID GI bleeding risk overstated, report finds

GI bleeding risks associated with taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are overstated by advocates for opioid painkiller use among elderly patients, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and MedPage Today report. An estimate of 16,500 deaths per year from NSAID-caused bleeding is based on old data, according to a researcher, and the CDC has put the actual figure at about 3,400.
