Studies link Parkinson’s beginnings to GI system

Data from two studies suggest Parkinson’s disease first appears in the GI system, which means it’s possible colorectal screenings could be used to test patients for Parkinson’s. The theory that Parkinson’s may begin in the gut is not new, but study author Dr. Kathleen Shannon of Rush University Medical Center said she hoped the research would allow earlier patient intervention.
