U.S. researchers link sunlight exposure to IBD risk

An analysis of data on the more than 238,000 women in the Nurses’ Health Study showed that living in Southern regions with a sunny climate reduced a woman’s risk of being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease by 52% and ulcerative colitis by 38% at age 30 compared with women in Northern regions. Findings affirm a previous European study suggesting that sunlight exposure could play a key role in inflammatory bowel disease. WebMD (1/11)
