Poster 216 The Novel Use of a Uniquely Designed, Lumen-Apposing Stent in Benign Gastric Outlet Obstruction: A Case Series

What’s new here and important for clinicians?

Treatment for benign (non-cancerous) gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) secondary to severe peptic ulcer disease or anastomotic stricturing is wrought with problems. Repeated dilations subject patients who are refractory to conservative therapy to multiple procedures and the risks and costs associated with those. Surgical intervention is less desirable, as these patients are often old and malnourished. Stenting of obstruction has been shown to be effective at improving symptoms temporarily, but has been associated with a stent migration rate of 68% at 6-8 weeks’ follow-up. The stent used in our cases is uniquely shaped like a dumbbell, which may reduce this migration risk and offer a new, safe, and effective option for the endoscopic management of benign gastric outlet obstruction.

Our cases, which demonstrate the novel use of this uniquely designed stent, may offer a new, safe, and effective option for the endoscopic management of benign gastric outlet obstruction that is caused by severe peptic ulcer disease or structuring from past gastric surgery.
