Poster 224 Successful Laparoscopic-Assisted Gastric Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (G-POEM) in Refractory Diabetic Gastroparesis

Author Insight from Steven M. Zeddun, MD, George Washington University

What’s new here and important for clinicians?

The treatment of refractory diabetic gastroparesis is challenging. Gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM) is a viable non-invasive treatment modality to consider in such patients.  Further studies are needed to evaluate G-POEM as an endoscopic therapy for refractory diabetic gastroparesis.

What do patients need to know?

G-POEM is an endoscopic procedure used to treat diabetic gastroparesis, which has not responded to conventional methods.  This is an emerging therapy and further studies are need to evaluate its application and efficacy.
