Poster 657 Are we Correctly Using the Gastroprotection Guidelines in NSAIDs Chronic Users?
Author Insight from José A. Velasco Zamora, MD, Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición “Salvador Zubirán” at Mexico City, Mexico.
What’s new here and important for clinicians?
Our study results confirm the findings already reported in previous studies some years ago; the gastroprotection strategies in patients at risk are not properly used, and most importantly, this problem still goes on. Doctors who care for chronic, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs) users, who are known to be at risk, must acknowledge and follow the gastroprotection strategies.
What do patients need to know?
Patients who are prescribed with anti-inflammatory and/or analgesics drugs –and its use isplanned for long term– it’s important to ask your doctor if you are at risk of suffering from these drugs side effects, and if you need gastroprotection in order to prevent them.
