Oral 9 A Placebo-Controlled Trial of Pregabalin for Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Author Insight from Yuri A. Saito, MD, MPH, Mayo Clinic
What’s new here and important for clinicians?
Treating and managing refractory abdominal pain can be challenging, as many patients do not respond to conventional treatments. Pregabalin has been used for neuropathic pain and fibromyalgia, but its effects on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms were not known previously. This pilot study suggests that Pregabalin may be helpful for IBS-related pain and diarrhea.
What do patients need to know?
Pregabalin may be helpful for their IBS symptoms, especially abdominal pain and diarrhea.
