What’s new and important here?
Pancreatic cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality. Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is a novel technology that has been used to image various pancreatic cystic lesions. Here, we highlight the use of in vivo and ex vivo CLE in the workup of a branch-duct gastric type intraducal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN). We illustrate the characteristic CLE pattern of IPMN lesions, namely well-defined, finger-like papillae or projections. Moreover, we found strong correlation between in vivo and ex vivo CLE findings and histopathology. In the future, CLE has the potential to supplement endoscopic ultrasound in the workup of pancreatic cystic lesions and guide management strategies.
