Poster 701 Screening for Eating Disorder in High School Students Using the SCOFF Questionnaire

Author Insight from Senior Author Reem Ghalib, MD, Texas Clinical Research Institute

What’s new here and important for clinicians?

The most significant finding is the high prevalence of symptoms suggestive of eating disorder among healthy high school students using the SCOFF questionnaire, which has high sensitivity and high specificity as a screening tool for eating disorders.

Primary care physicians and pediatricians may want to consider screening for eating disorders as part of their routine practice, particularly since managing these disorders early on in the course is more likely to be successful long term.

What do patients need to know?

Patients need to be aware of the symptoms of eating disorders, the complications of eating disorders, and their management strategies.
