Video 5 Double Tunnel Endoscopic Submucosal Tunnel Dissection for Rectal Circumferential Laterally Spreading Tumor

Author Insight from Wei Gong, MD, PhD, Department of Gastroenterology, Shenzhen Hospital of Southern Medical University, Shenzhen, China

What’s new and important here?

Rectal circumferential laterally spreading tumor is very rare. Endoscopic submucosal dissection is the primary method for resecting such lesions, however it is very difficult, even for the experienced endoscopist. “Double-Tunnel” method was first reported in esophageal endoscopic dissection. Two opposite tunnels were created in the submucosal layel from one side to another, the difficulty is extremely reduced. In our experience, “DT-ESTD” is also a very safe and effective method for resecting rectal circumferential LSTs.
