What’s new and important here?
Ergonomics within endoscopy is still an under-investigated area, especially within the field of advanced endoscopy. No studies have been published in this country focused on ergonomics in endoscopists who perform Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Obtaining knowledge about the types of injuries sustained by advanced endoscopists will allow us to focus on why these injuries occur, followed by what can be done to prevent them.
Seventy-five percent of endoscopists who perform ERCPs stated that they never received any education or training on ergonomics in ERCP, which means we have plenty of room for improvement from an education standpoint. Information obtained from a study such as this is a major stepping stone toward getting a better idea of how and where we should focus provider and trainee education.
