The David Sun Lecture, established in memory of the outstanding gastroenterologist and investigator Dr. David Sun, will be delivered by Miguel D. Regueiro, MD, FACG. During his lecture, “The IBD Medical Home and Neighborhood: It Takes a Village,” Dr. Regueiro will explain the role of alternative models of care, such as the medical home, for the management of inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr. Regueiro earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania, his medical degree at Drexel University, then completed his internal medicine internship and residency, and clinical and research fellowship training in gastroenterology at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Hospital.

Dr. Regueiro was Professor of Medicine and Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as well as the IBD Clinical Medical Director and Associate Chief for Education and former Director of the Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition Fellowship Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He was also Senior Medical Lead of Specialty Medical Homes at UPMC. He is currently Chair of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Professor of Medicine in the Lerner College of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio. Dr. Regueiro’s main clinical and research interest is inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), with a focus on the natural course of this disease and postoperative prevention of Crohn’s disease. Recently, he has been involved in developing new models of healthcare, including the first-of-its-kind specialty medical home for IBD.

About the David Sun Lecture: The David Sun Lecture, held during the Postgraduate Course, was established by Mrs. Sun in memory of her husband, Dr. David Sun, an outstanding gastroenterologist and investigator. Each year, a lecturer with a distinguished background in gastroenterology or an allied field is chosen by the Course Directors of the Postgraduate Course subject to the approval of the ACG Educational Affairs Committee and the ACG Board of Trustees.
