Attend Dr. Stephen Hanauer’s David Y. Graham Lecture, and gain a better understanding of mentoring towards leadership roles in gastroenterology.

Dr. Hanauer served as ACG President from 2014–2015 and is currently the Medical Director of the Digestive Health Center at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine and the Clifford Joseph Barborka Professor of Medicine. He served as the Joseph B. Kirsner Chair Professor of Medicine and was Chief of the Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the University of Chicago, where he served from 2000–2014. He is Board Certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Gastroenterology, respectively. Dr. Hanauer has memberships in several professional societies, and is a Fellow of the ACG, the AGA, and the ACP. He is a prior member of the Specialty Board of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

He has served as a Member and Chair of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Advisory Panel for Gastrointestinal Disorders, and is a member and former Chairman of the International Organization for Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He has authored over 450 peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and book chapters, abstracts, monographs, and editorials. He was formerly the Editor-in-Chief of Nature Clinical Practice Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Associate Editor (IBD) of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and has served on the editorial boards of numerous journals, including The American Journal of Gastroenterology and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. Dr. Hanauer completed his medical degree with honors at the University of Illinois in Chicago. His postdoctoral training included an internship and residency in internal medicine, as well as a fellowship in gastroenterology, at the University of Chicago.

The Graham Lecturer is chosen by the ACG President and is subject to approval by the ACG Board of Trustees. Established in 2004 in recognition of the many contributions to clinical gastroenterology made by David Y. Graham, MD, MACG, this named lectureship was made possible through a donation by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Inc., and Meretek Diagnostics, Inc.
