ACG’s Solidarity and Ways to Meet Urgent Needs in Turkey and Syria

by ACG President Daniel J. Pambianco, MD, FACG

Dr. Daniel J. Pambianco

I wanted to take this opportunity to raise awareness among ACG members of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the aftermath of two devastating earthquakes on February 6 in Turkey near the border with Syria.

The leadership of the College expresses solidarity with all those severely impacted by this disaster. ACG wants to make its members aware of organizations deploying urgently needed medical and humanitarian aid, including acute and chronic care medications, to hard-hit areas in Turkey and Syria, and urges you to make a donation to ease human suffering.

Opportunities for Charitable Giving

For those ACG members interested in contributing to relief efforts, here are organizations we understand are working to meet the most critical needs on the ground in Turkey and Syria:

  • Direct Relief A Santa Barbara, CA-based non-profit founded in 1948 that provides medical aid to people in disaster zones. Direct Relief works in the U.S. and internationally to expand access to medicine and healthcare by equipping doctors and nurses with lifesaving medical resources. They have already started to mobilize medical aid for Turkey and Syria.

  • Whitetulip Health Foundation A New Jersey based organization which received non-profit status in 2015 that is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of communities around the world. Whitetulip Health has established a gofundme.com site to help earthquake victims in Turkey. Of note, this non-profit was suggested by an ACG member Dr. Furkan U. Ertem of Spartanburg Regional Health System who recently finished GI fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.

Thanks for your generosity and support in the wake of this tragedy.
