Recommendations for COVID-19 and Other Infectious Diseases

The American College of Gastroenterology endorses evidence-based public health measures designed to prevent and minimize the spread of infectious diseases. To support safely and responsibly convening at ACG’s educational programs, the College strongly encourages all in-person attendees at its meetings to follow national and local public health recommendations. While the College has convened meetings safely in the current environment, ACG cannot guarantee that an attendee will not be exposed to infectious diseases. Anyone experiencing symptoms should refrain from in-person attendance and instead participate in those programs available through virtual access. ACG will continue to monitor the situation and make necessary and appropriate adjustments.

Course Description:

ACG’S 2023 Hepatology School and the ACG Eastern Regional Postgraduate Course are Designed to Meet the Needs of the GI Team.

Bring your entire practice and join colleagues at these two outstanding programs developed specifically for gastroenterologists, gastroenterology trainees, primary care physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, therapists, and other members of the GI patient care team interested in the latest information on hepatic disorders and diagnostic GI, and the state-of-the-art treatment of these illnesses.

Building on the success of ACG’s prior Hepatitis Schools, ACG’s Hepatology School provides comprehensive education for GI clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of many other frequently diagnosed liver disease states. The program content is tailored to reflect the rapid changes in treatment options and national trends meeting the standard of care. After completing ACG’s Hepatology School, attendees will be able to summarize the current management options for each of the hepatitis infections and understand the timeline of new drug development for their treatment. Participating in this educational activity will also enable learners to analyze the challenges of treating patients with NAFLD, hepatocellular carcinoma, alcoholic liver disease, primary biliary cholangitis, and non-immunologic cholestatic liver disorders. The structure of the program includes a mix of didactic presentations and case-based presentations delivered by expert faculty.

Led by Course Directors Dominique E. Howard, MD, FACG, and Rakesh Vinayek, MD, FACG, the Eastern Regional Postgraduate Course, offered on Saturday and Sunday, June 3-4, will focus on topics such as diseases of the upper and lower GI tract, GI bleeding, IBD, obesity, and liver. This program explores those areas which the gastroenterologist often faces in clinical practice, and addresses management updates in a variety of gastrointestinal and hepatic areas. During this course, multiple topics will be covered, including GERD, eosinophilic esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus, achalasia, autoimmune liver diseases, hepatorenal syndrome, upper and lower GI bleeding, quality metrics for colonoscopy, polyposis syndromes, IBD, acute and chronic pancreatitis, H. pylori, celiac disease, IBS, and much more! The structure of the program includes a mix of didactic presentations delivered by expert faculty, breakout sessions, case presentations, and significant question and answer opportunities. Non-CME hands-on endoscopy sessions will be offered on Saturday afternoon.
