Author Insight from Shail Govani, MD, MSc

What’s new here and important for clinicians?
Practices like ours were devoting significant resources to post-procedure follow up by calling patients. We showed that by using a combination of email, text message and automated phone calls, we were able to reach a significant portion of the patients. We confirmed that this was more successful than our prior approach of calling patients. This shows that practices should consider moving to digital outreach when interacting with patients.

What do patients need to know?
Practices may start using text messages or emails to reach out to patients either before or after procedures. Patients are more likely to respond to text messages/email rather than personal phone calls.
