Experts: Stool test not likely to change need for colonoscopy

A noninvasive diagnostic test that looks for multiple molecular markers in stool could help diagnose early colorectal cancer and reduce the number of false-positive findings, according to Mayo Clinic researchers. However, experts who commented on the study said it likely would not change the need for colonoscopy, which gastroenterologist Dr. Lawrence Cohen at Mount Sinai School of Medicine called “the undisputed winner” for colon cancer screening.
