May is Hepatitis Awareness Month and gastroenterologist Dr. Todd Scheer of the Austin Diagnostic Clinic in Texas says hepatitis is inflammation of the liver that can lead to serious complications. Of greatest concern is hepatitis C, which is a chronic condition. He says most people do not have symptoms, so the disease may not be discovered until it has progressed significantly.
