Attention ACG Members: participate in a 2018 CMS study on burdens associated with reporting quality measures, and receive MIPS’ Improvement Activities Credit
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it is conducting a “2018 Burdens Associated with Reporting Quality Measures Study,” which allows eligible ACG members to receive credit towards fulfilling the Merit-based Improvement Payment Systems’ (MIPS) Improvement Activities performance category. According to the announcement, CMS is conducting this study to:
- Examine clinical workflows and data collection methods using different submission systems;
- Understand the challenges clinicians face when collecting and reporting quality data; and
- Make future recommendations for changes that will attempt to eliminate clinician burdens, improve quality data collection and reporting, and enhance clinical care.
MIPS-eligible ACG members and groups who successfully participate in the study will receive full credit for the 2018 MIPS Improvement Activities performance category. Applications for this study will be accepted through April 30, 2018, and will be notified in the spring of 2018 if selected.
As ACG has previously alerted members, the College is a partner of CMS’ initiative to reduce physician-burden called “Patients over Paperwork.” ACG continues to advocate to policymakers on your behalf to reduce the administrative hassle associated with practicing medicine.

Last week, on Thursday, April 19th, the ACG Board of Governors completed their 2018 Annual Legislative Fly-In and Spring Meeting in Washington D.C. Over 50 ACG Governors and members of the ACG Leadership embarked on Capitol Hill to meet with over 250 legislators to advocate on your behalf, bringing light to the important issues impacting your practice and your patients. Costas H. Kefalas, MD, MMM, FACG, current Chair of the ACG Board of Governors, recently had a conversation with Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease, discussing the details of the legislation that the ACG leaders advocated for, as well as other important healthcare related issues that the College is addressing on behalf of clinical GI.

ACG President, Dr. Irving Pike, MD, FACG of John Muir Health discusses the evolution of the GIQuIC program, from the initial presentation of a proof of concept to the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) governing board and the ACG Board of Trustees in 2009, to reaching 6 million colonoscopies in late January of this year. More than one-third of clinically practicing gastroenterologists participate in the program at over 650 locations, Pike writes.
GIQuIC 2018 QCDR: MIPS Dashboard Demonstration

The GIQuIC Registry is a CMS-approved Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) for reporting to the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) for the 2018 reporting year. On Wednesday, June 13 at 2:00 pm Central Time, GIQuIC will present a demonstration of its 2018 MIPS Dashboard, which registry participants would utilize if they choose to use the GIQuIC QCDR as their mechanism for public reporting.
GIQuIC hosted an informational webinar on February 27 to provide the details surrounding the QCDR reporting option and how the GIQuIC registry can help satisfy MIPS requirements for the 2018 reporting year.
