Media Features ACG Leaders on Prior Authorization Changes
National media outlets are highlighting what ACG leaders have voiced all along: United HealthCare's (UHC) new prior authorization requirements will harm patient care and GI practices. After last week's article featuring ACG President Daniel Pambianco, MD, FACG, and Chair of the ACG Board of Governors Dayna Early, MD, FACG, there has been more media coverage on UHC's unnecessary and unethical new rules, including an op-ed in MedPage Today authored by ACG Trustee Aasma Shaukat, MD, FACG. MedPage also interviewed Dr. Early on these forthcoming changes. The USA TODAY also published an article this week.
ACG and the GI societies coordinated a letter to UHC signed by 175 organizations, urging UHC to abandon its looming prior authorization policy. In a separate letter from the presidents of the three GI societies, Dr. Pambianco requested that UHC reconsider and rescind these upcoming changes. Our patients and practices deserve better!
