Are you passionate about evidence-based research in gastroenterology (GI) and dedicated to advancing the field through application of scholarly research in clinical practice? Do you possess exceptional leadership skills and a keen eye for quality content? If so, we invite you to apply for the position of Co-Editor-in-Chief at Evidence-Based GI (EBGI), an American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) publication, where an expert editorial board provides concise, evidence-based structured abstracts, expert commentary, and practical advice for implementing the newest research into daily clinical practice.

The ACG is looking for 2 individuals to work together as co-Editors-in-Chief to select articles to be summarized, edit writers’ contributions, and record podcasts discussing clinical applicability of articles and importance of the article selection to the literature. The current Editor-in-Chief scans European GI journals (e.g., GUT, Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology) and general medical journals (e.g., Lancet, British Medical Journal, JAMA, JAMA Internal Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, New England Journal of Medicine) monthly to identify potential studies.

Term: One 3-year term, October 2024-October 2027. Candidates should be available for training from August 1-October 1, 2024 to ensure smooth transition of editors.

Deadline: June 15, 2024

About EBGI

Published online monthly, each issue evaluates new research articles in GI and hepatology published across various general medical journals using evidence-based criteria to identify the highest quality studies, write structured abstracts, and provide expert commentary on the article.

The criteria from the “User’s Guides to the Medical Literature: A Manual for Evidence-Based Clinical Practice, 3rd edition” (2015) is used to create structured abstracts, assess the methodologic quality of studies, and explain study results for practitioners with limited knowledge of statistics.

This publication aims to fill an unmet need for members in private practice who do not have institutional access to non-ACG subscription-based publications. Readers can catch up on research quickly, keeping up to date on new studies and trends in GI.

Candidates should be prepared to build an editorial board, proposing at least two US colleagues who can be approached to become an Associate Editor starting in Oct 2024, with specific expertise in a focused area of gastroenterology or hepatology.

Responsibilities

  1. Work within the ACG’s Vision and Strategic Plan to support its mission to enhance the ability of members to provide world class care to patients with digestive disorders and advance the profession through excellence and innovation based upon the pillars of Patient Care, Education, Scientific Investigation, Advocacy, and Practice Management.

  3. Uphold ethical standards and best practices in academic publishing, including transparency, integrity, and diversity and inclusion.
