Study explores link between intestinal bacteria, health

Gut bacteria apparently play an important role in the health of seniors as they age, according to research from University College Cork in Ireland. The study found older people who lived independently had more varied intestinal microbes and were the healthiest, while those in assisted-living facilities had less diverse bacterial flora and were more frail.
