Researchers have yet to pinpoint cause of IBS

Researchers don’t fully understand what causes irritable bowel syndrome, but Dr. Satish Rao of the Georgia Health Sciences University and Health System says environmental factors and a person’s genetic makeup may be factors. There is no specific test for IBS, but dietary changes and some medications may help reduce symptoms. Rao says stress, which can spark symptoms in IBS patients, does not cause the condition.
