Study finds high-fructose diet adversely affects liver

In obese patients with type 2 diabetes, a diet high in fructose may increase uric acid levels and reduce the molecule in the liver used to transfer energy between cells, a Duke University study found. Researchers said this can lead to a reduction in liver energy stores, which could damage the liver in people at risk for, or who have, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. HealthDay News (9/17)
